William Dewolf

Associate Lawyer & Mediator

William DeWolf is an experienced family law lawyer, and an accredited family law mediator. William has also practiced in the areas of criminal law, civil litigation, and estate planning.

William obtained his Juris Doctor in 2013 from the University of New Brunswick. Following law school, William articled in Smithers, BC, and continued to practice in Smithers until moving to Vancouver and joining Hart Legal in 2017.

William is originally from Prince George, and graduated from the University of Northern British Columbia in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts with a joint major in International Studies and Political Science, and a minor in Economics. While attending UNBC William served as Director of the Northern Undergraduate Student Society, and volunteered as a Team Leader for the UNBC Orientation Week.

In between undergrad and law school, William taught English as a second language, primarily in Vancouver, but also in Japan and Taiwan.

William has experience in all areas of family law, from cohabitation agreements, to child protection and high conflict litigation. William has helped many clients through the difficult process of separation and litigation. Often, the litigation process, which is adversarial in nature, is not the best way to resolve family law matters. William is a proponent of parties attending mediation to deal with their family matter, and can assist clients either as a mediator, or counsel at mediation.

There are times when mediation is inappropriate for family matter, and litigation is required. William has extensive litigation experience, and also mentors junior lawyers to ensure they are effectively and efficiently advocating for their client’s interests. William encourages mediation when appropriate, and having junior associates work under his supervision to keep clients’ costs down. As such William offers a reduced rate when working as a mediator, and when for mentoring junior associates.

William’s fees are as follows:

Litigation (contested matters which will require attending court): $400 /hour

Solicitor Services (drafting agreements, and wills and estate planning):  $350/hour

Mediation and mentorship: $300/hour
