Katya Richardson

Associate Lawyer

Katya graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree (Cum laude) and a law degree from the University of Western Ontario (Western University).

Katya focuses on family law, estate planning, and estate litigation.

Katya actively works with clients to resolve family disputes through negotiation and/or mediation, reducing stress and costs for her clients. That being said, Katya recognizes that some cases require a firmer approach, and she is well equipped to handle high conflict cases that require court appearances.

Katya will work with clients to resolve all major family law issues including:

  • Prenuptial agreements
  • Separation agreements
  • Uncontested divorce
  • Property division
  • Spousal support
  • Custody and access
  • Parenting arrangements
  • Re-location
  • Child support

Katya prepares estate planning packages that are tailored to meet clients’ unique needs. Her goal is to ensure that when individuals have to make decisions on behalf of their loved ones, there are clearly drafted estate documents that accurately capture their wishes. The service Katya offers goes beyond drafting the documents and includes value-added advice on structuring estates to minimize fees and conflict between family members.

When disputes do arise between beneficiaries, Katya can represent clients in legal actions to ensure the estate is fairly distributed.

Katya is passionate about research, writing, and international justice. In law school, she travelled to Bangkok, Thailand with Canadian Lawyers Abroad to spend a summer assisting an international non-governmental organization with legal research on human trafficking. Katya has published a number of scholarly articles, including a book review on labour economics, which she presented to staff at the United Nations East Asia and Pacific headquarters.

Katya has conversational Spanish and can review documents in Spanish.
